3. Welfare Support.

Medical treatment. First aid and treatment for minor illnesses should be available to boarders at all times. Boarders should also have access to medical, dental and optical services as needed. Pupils can choose whether they want to have a member of staff with them when being seen by a doctor or dentist. Suitable accommodation should be available for the separate care of boarders who are ill. Boarders who are ill should be looked after by a member of staff and checked regularly. They should be able to call for help from staff easily.

Health and personal problems.Boarders with medical problems, disabilities, welfare or emotional needs, are given proper support and help. Individual plans to help boarders with welfare or behavioural problems, or where a boarder does not see their parent/guardian at least 3 times a year, are developed and followed by staff.

Discrimination. Within a school there is no inappropriate discrimination on grounds of gender, disability, race, religion, cultural or linguistic background, sexual orientation or academic or sporting ability. These things are taken into account in the care of boarders, so that care is sensitive to needs.
