4. Further support.

Induction of new boarders.
New boarders should be given written information about rules and routines. New boarders should be given guidance from more experienced boarders.

Contact with families.Private contact with parents and families is made possible. Help lines numbers to contact if there are problems are made available.

Pocket money and possessions. Reasonable protection is provided for boarders' personal possessions and for money or valuables looked after by the school. Where the school gives out pocket money written records should be kept.

Educational guardians. Any guardian appointed by the school should be checked to the same level as staff, including Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks. Where this support is arranged by parents they are responsible their child's welfare while staying with the guardian.

Catering. Any special dietary need, medical or religious, are met. Drinking water is available in all boarding houses at all reasonable times. Snacks are available, at times other than mealtimes. These can be provided by the school, purchased or prepared by the boarders.

Access to information. Boarders should be able to take a problem or welfare issue to any member of staff, not just those designated to deal with such issues. Boarders should also have access to someone they can contact who is not boarding or teaching staff.
