National Minimum Standards for Accommodation of Students Under 18 By Further Education Colleges

6. Lodgings.

Any lodgings arranged directly by the college to accommodate students under 18 should provide satisfactory accommodation and supervision. The accommodation should be checked by the college before use and monitored by the college while students are living there.

Any lodgings provided or arranged by the college in private houses should provide for example:

  • Each student with their own room or if sharing a room only with one other student also under 18 and of the same gender
  • A bedroom that is NOT shared with any member of the household family
  • Access to the house at reasonable times, without being locked out
  • Facilities for the student or the family to wash clothes and bedding if this are not done at the college.
