National Minimum Standards for Residential Family Centres

2. Quality of Care

Moving in and leaving.
This is done in a planned way. Parents are clear about how time will be spent before arriving. Both the needs of the parents, the children and the other residents are taken into account before anyone is admitted to a centre. Parents know details of how the centre works, contained in the statement of purpose, before they arrive. Where parent has been looked after by a local authority, placements plans and follow up support are provided as required. (Prompt from the helper about CA 1989 and CLCA 2000)

Placement planning. Children and their parents have their needs assessed and written plans outline how the assessment will be undertaken by staff during their stay at the centre.

Health & well being. Families must have access to health services such as health clinics for immunisations, vaccinations, medical and developmental checks. Families must also have access to dentists and opticians.

Case records. Each family must have a permanent and private record that details their history and progress. Families must have access to this record.
