3. Complaints and protection.

Complaints & Representations. The children's guide must tell children how to make a complaint if there are unhappy with anything to do with living at the home. Children's should feel able to make a complaint and not worry about any comeback or punishment for speaking out. Complaints should be dealt with within 28 days. Children should be told what is happening with their complaint. Sometimes children want to make a suggestion or give views about something, which isn't a complaint, more like a piece of advice. This is sometimes called a representation and children should be encouraged to make them.

Bullying. Children must be protected from bullying. There must be information about how the home will deal with bullying and children should know about this and know what they can do if they are being bullied.

Children who go missing. All staff must know what to do if a child goes missing from the home. When a child returns to the home it is important they are given the chance to say why they went missing. They may want to speak to their social worker or someone independent of the home.
