National Minimum Standards for Residential Special Schools
Introduction.
This section of the site provides a summary of the National Minimum standards
(NMS) for Residential Special Schools. They are used by
Ofsted when carrying out welfare inspection of special school and are intended to safeguard and promote the welfare of children for whom accommodation is provided by a residential special school. The full version of these standards is available in pdf format accessible from this page.
1. Statement of the Schools Purpose.
The school should provide information that describes what its sets out to do for children it accommodates. This information should be in a form that can be understood by pupils, staff, parents and social workers. The information should also be available in other formats such as Braille or on tape, or presented as a children's or parents guide.
