6. Planning for care.

Care plans. Each boarding pupil should have a care plan setting out their needs and how the school will care for them. The plan should be monitored and updated as necessary. Each child should have a key worker and have a view on the selection of this worker. Children should be given guidance when needed or requested. The school supports children going through stressful times e.g. homesickness. External specialist support is arranged as required e.g. speech and language therapy or physiotherapy.

Case files. Children have a private and secure record of their history and progress. Individual pupil records are kept by the school for at least 21 years from the date of birth of the child or passed to the next school.

Contact. Children should be encouraged and allowed to maintain contact with their parents and family members. The school should support any restrictions on contact if imposed by a court or authorised personnel.

Leaving care. Children in care should be supported by the school in line with their pathway plan.
